Okay, sashay it back in people and put down your MC Hammer pants, I said work it not twerk it! Although, after my post, you may just want to petition your local Zumba teacher to incorporate "Twerk it" into your hip shaking class. Disclaimer: I in no way will be or can be held responsible for you hot mamas out there getting your groove back and shocking your husbands nationwide.
Soooo, if you just happened to be bored out of your mind and scrolled down....or your computer was possessed from hitting tab too many times, (either way is fine with me, really) you will see its been quite a while since I posted on The Daily Sweat. It's not from lack of sweating mind you (ummmm-get your mind out of the gutter...and btw, while you're there, can you find my missing pink shoe lace?)
Let me explain. Since relocating to the good ol' Volunteer state and recovering from my umpteenth injury, I've been weekly logging miles on the bike (spinning) and foot (running) as well as doing some Yogilates. Yea, that's right... Yoga + Pilates...some people are so clever with words aren't they? Oh and I'm sure you were just baffled by what I meant in relation to foot miles.
I've also trained several people on the couch to 5k and recently began working with a client twice a week at her home. In September, I will be leading a couch to 5k group at my church. I also hope to pick up some more local clients.
My current typical week looks like this:
Monday-run 3-5 miles
Tuesday-train client (and until right before vacation spinning and Yogilates)
Wednesday-run 3-5 miles
Friday-run 3-5 miles
Saturday-earning medals for laying on the couch all day eating Doritos
Sunday-practice kickboxing on myself for indulging in corn chip deliciousness
I am also currently in the Z corral when it comes to training for the Chicago half-marathon that I am running in September. I'm quite anal so this is very unlike me. But, since moving I just haven't found my old running niche (or my shoe lace for that matter...) In all seriousness, it would really help if you found my shoe lace. It appears my lack of training is all your fault. You really should practice taking responsibility for your actions.
I've got to speed up my training and include long runs on the weekend again. However, I did run the Sunday before last, so I think that should count. Okay, so maybe not. But, being the genius I am, I think I solved the problem. I put some new tunes on my shuffle. Twerk it may or may not have been one of the songs on said playlist. I'll let you know how that turns out.
But, only if you return my shoe lace.
So, like Alison from Pretty Little Liars (what? it's not just 13 year old girls that watch that show) Work it Wednesday is being resurrected from the dead...or brought back to life...or never was dead....oh the suspense is killing me!!!
So what has your workout schedule looked like...in lets say...oh the last year? Comment and let me know how you worked it out on this Wednesday. Do tell.
Then, just for kicks, go "twerk, twerk, twerk"...Miley Cyrus will thank me.
Hello blog world!
As you know, we have been on a major break with our site. The sisters and I have experienced a lot of loss this past season and it has been a very difficult time. It has caused us to re-evaluate ourselves and our motives. I just couldn't in good conscience post during this time. And sadly, we found ourselves not living a whole existence. Sure, we were "going through the motions" with good works but our heart was somewhere else.
We have been working on an overhaul of the site for quite sometime but with Freeing Sisyphus moving across the country and starting a new role at her job, there has been little time. Not to mention, I myself, as I stated previously was just in a dark place. There were moments of light but in the end, it came down to a term that's pretty cheesy but true: "stinkin thinkin"
I found myself very ungrateful for everything around me-my friends, family, career, etc. I was taking everything for granted and not living in a thankful state. Through a series of unfortunate events, my eyes were opened and I am now trying to live in the present and be focused on a grateful heart everyday. I am ashamed of my past attitude and honestly was missing out on life because of it.
A light switch has been turned on and I can see again.
We all have times in our lives that are dark and scary, but it certainly is not an excuse to be unappreciative and bitter.
We will continue to work on our site and more importantly our lives for that matter, but until then, I thought I would share some of our recent activities. Bootcamp has continued to grow and I am more than blessed to be able to share my life and what little I know about exercise with my community.
We are embarking on a weight loss journey through WW with some friends. More than losing weight, it is taking accountability for what we are putting in our bodies. And most of all, it is only a representation of the "cleaning house" that is going on in our lives.
We continue to workout and now that 1/2 marathon training has started, I rarely get a rest day. But, its okay because sweating once a day, is crucial to my well being.
I thought I would share some not so life changing or important photos in an effort not to glorify myself but to inspire others to make small changes-take baby steps towards a healthier, happier you. (These are pics of the last few months)
And since we are under the Daily Sweat tab, I will share my workouts for the week.
Monday: Run 4 miles (10:48 pace)
Tuesday: Kickboxing and teach Pilates
Wednesday: Run 4 miles (10:38 pace)
Thursday: Plyometrics, Hot Vinyasa Yoga and run 4 miles with training group (10:30 pace)
Saturday: rest day
Sunday: Run 5 miles and teach bootcamp
What small changes have you made so far in 2012?
So I am living it up here in good 'ol Rocky Top visiting the sister, Medical Mama and her kiddos. So far its been really busy and really fun! The first night we went to the Country Club, to have a birthday dinner with my sister's nephew. The food was amazing and the kids had a blast.
Well its that time again sweaters! I hope youve been throwing it down b/c we sure are. We really need a name? Any suggests? I have one for our Summer Ride girls.....Summer Ridge Gangstas, my original group is my OG's and Jenny is my BRP. (best running partner.) However, the group seems to be changing and I think we need a new name ......so help me out. It can't be cheesy like "running girls"
So, lets get on to the slide show. The bottom pics are of me running KILLER hills in good ol Rocky Top. Totally insane but I have a route and I might even have a friend joining me from Johnson City to attack the greenway. Can't wait!!
Oh and I almost forgot-I got a call from the YMCA which is so exciting!! They called and offered me to "try out" with a 3 day conference in October. Can't wait. It is connected to a beautiful hospital complex, with a Subway, lap pools, and tons for kids in the winter. Pray for favor please!!!
For our sweaters out there, keep it up! You know you feel better! We ran, rowed, stair climbed, cycled, weight lifted, bootcamps and walked. What did you do?
OH and here one of my bestie's sent me this and I just have to share: Rock on - girl power! (total 90's but you get the point)
"Your body will argue that there is no justifiable reason to continue. Your only recourse is to call on your spirit, which fortunately functions independently of logic." - Tim Noakes
"Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired. When you were younger the mind could make you dance all night, and the body was never tired..You've got to make the mind take over and keep going." - George S. Patton, U.S. Army General and 1912 Olympian
