Look at that sun shining behind me....Oh how glorious that run was. 5 miles in 56 minutes, no humidity, perfect fall temperatures, sun beaming down on me warming my muscles just enough. For the first time I really believed that my 1/2 marathon training was starting to get on track. I felt absolutely fantastic.
For many of us across the country, this summer has not been ideal for outdoor training. I spent most of my summer in Minnesota where it was cold, then unbearably hot, then rainy and the last month in Philadelphia where I was evacuated once and was almost evacuated again last week. Right now I'm watching images on the Weather Channel (total weather channel geek) about record rainfall in PA, flooded roads and a forecast for a rainy, dreary weekend.
This week has been a week of puddle running. While my sister is running up and down the hills in Rocky Top, I'm splish splashing in puddles. The trail I use is heavily trafficked by bikes, so I have to stay close to the edges, deep in puddle land. It's been pretty wet and gross.
Local on the 8s (you WC folks know what I mean) is showing that the rain will start a little later, but that there is 94% humidity right now. AND yesterday the rain was a'pouring down on the roof of my building at work. I bet those puddles have gotten a little deeper.
How do I get excited about getting out there today? Any tips? I know I will feel good afterwards, but I feel like throwing a little bit of a fit. As my sis said yesterday, most of our battles are mental. I guess I need a little self talk:
1) At least it's not snowing or pouring down rain
2) I'll sweat out lots of stress from the week
3) I FINALLY got my Garmin fixed after several failed attempts to find the right battery (they don't have a Batteries Plus nearby)
4) I'll be one step closer to my goal
5) I'll be proud of myself for pounding out the pavement
Ok, almost there mentally
And....I did it! 5.5 miles. I am a proud Puddle Conqueror! Good luck today Sweaters, fighting the good fight. Please comment with any good motivational tips or tricks you tell yourself and have a great sweat!
