You know how people say that a smile is contagious? I truly believe that a commitment to being well is also. This morning I read a story before my run about someone who had lost over 150 lbs by just committing to eating well. Before reading that story, I was staring out my window, looking at the wet streets and the gloomy weather wondering how I was going to do my six miles for 1/2 marathon training.
When I read that story I got inspired. I'd had a couple of disappointing runs during the week. Not sure why. The body was a little fatigued, the weather was weird (pretty hot) and I just didn't feel great. But, today I pounded out 6.5 in under 1:10 which is a record for this baby elephant. I was wearing the same shirt I got on the day I finished my first race at a 12+ pace.
I had also received several texts from my sister about an 8K she had run with her girls over the weekend. These girls are phenomenal. They won't let anything stop them.
I thought about the spirit of those women pounding out their 8K and I thought about this guy who had decided one day to change his life forever, and I hit the trail. It was magical. Yes, the temps helped (low 50's), but I pounded out that 6.5 so much easier than the 3.5 I had done two days ago.
So, bloggers, storytellers and those of you who have made the choice to commit to being well, to healthy living - you have a force that is powerful. Use it. Those smiles you get after conquering a run, that feeling you have when you know you have made good choices for your health - share it. It truly is contagious.
You never know - you could change the life of the person sitting next to you without ever realizing it.
Adventuresses in healthy living.
